BrainJams Announces Inaugural Event in Silicon Valley

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (ContentDesk) December 2, 2005 -- BrainJams are a new type of event where technologists, non-profits, business people and community leaders come together to share their knowledge, experiences and ideas across traditional boundaries. BrainJams enable people to meet new friends/associates from diverse backgrounds and gain insights on their current projects, while contributing to the success of others.
The next BrainJams event will be held this Saturday, December 3rd from 9:00am to 5:00pm at SRI's famed campus in Menlo Park, CA.
The first half of the day centers on knowledge networking (aka: BrainJamming), which is similar to speed dating without all the flowers and romance.
Participants will have 24 one-on-one meetings lasting five minutes each, where they can talk with one another about what they are doing and share valuable insights from their personal experiences.

The attendee lead afternoon sessions focus on how people use emerging technology such as blogs and wikis to more effectively complete their projects and pursue their passions. The knowledge discussed at BrainJams will be captured by bloggers, podcasters and vloggers to be shared with others online, furthering the discussion and building on what is learned at the event.
Attendees will leave the event with dozens of new connections and many new ideas to improve upon the projects with which they are connected.
BrainJams founder Chris Heuer adds, You never know what can come out of getting great people together.
New companies may be formed, old problems may be solved or an old idea may gain new life.

As we emphasized with the Web2point1 conference, the point is not the technology - the point is people.
Get people to share knowledge across traditional boundaries, break down information silos and watch the human spirit soar to new heights.
The knowledge we need to do things right is out there somewhere BrainJams offers structured serendipity to help people find out what they need to know to do what they have to do.
Attendance is free, though donations are gladly accepted to ensure future BrainJams events are held throughout the country and around the world.
To learn more about the event, please visit the Web site at http://brainjams.org.BrainJamsBrainJams (http://www.brainjams.org) facilitates ad-hoc collaboration and interpersonal connections across traditional social, political, technical, economic and organizational boundaries.
As a non-profit, it is the goal of the organization to enable the creation of solutions for some of the most difficult socio-economic problems by applying easy to use Open Web technology.

BrainJams is also a community of practice for people who are organizing other forms of open events, such as BarCamp (http://www.barcamp.org/), to share best practices, insights and resources.
The knowledge needed to make the world a better place exists within the minds and experiences of the people on the planet.
By connecting people with one another to discuss their personal and professional passions, we are merely taking the first step towards The Noble Pursuit.

When You Give A Gift, It?s The Thought That Counts, Right?

It's a no-no to tell someone you don't like their gift because it's the thought that counts, right? Sure, but just how ?nice' are your thoughts towards your gift giver who doesn't listen in order to know what your likes and dislikes are? How disappointed are you when with anticipation you unwrap your gift to stare down at an ugly pair of socks, or when your husband of four years decides his wife would absolutely love a broom for Valentines Day?Gift giving is more than just the thought. It's the thought, the gift, the intention ? the whole package. The best gifts are ones that directly think of the recipient, that's truly when the thought counts. If you know your boyfriend will just about die for the whole collection of South Park, then why buy him a tie? What value would your girlfriend find in a pretty package of art supplies when she has no interest in painting? We've devoted a whole page on our website with "Horror Gifts" Received. Take for example the man who received a box of chocolates...

Direct Answers - Column for the week of June 24, 2002 I suppose there are worse problems than having two men who want to share their life with me. However, it is a genuine problem. I do need advice on sorting this all out. My former husband and I wanted a baby and soon had one. The problems in our marriage stemmed from two teenage daughters from his first marriage.

Their mom jumped ship after 10 years to "find herself," leaving him to raise the girls. Suffice it to say the girls were extremely hard on me, and his family didn't accept that three years after his divorce, he moved on. We sought counseling, but it didn't resolve anything. I grew weary trying to raise two girls that hated me and dealing with his hostile family. That was four years ago.

For the next two years he was so bitter I left he wouldn't speak to me, and all communication was through third parties. Life has been difficult for me raising a son on my own. I had to sell the home I bought for the two of us...
